Squires, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born on Aug. 4, 1925, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Hubert M. and Lilla Mae Newman Brunson. She was a member of Lewis Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as church secretary and treasurer for 32 years, was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was employed by Williams Furniture Co. for 13 years and retired from Belk Department Store after 22 years of service. Survivors include two sons, Terry Squires (Monica) and Tommy Squires, both of Alcolu; grandchildren, Andrews Squires (Melissa) and Patrick Squires, both of Sumter, Champ Squires and Leighton Squires, both of Alcolu, and Justin Brown of Manning; five great-grandchildren, Cody, Drew, Kole, Avery and Liam Squires; a brother, Douglas Brunson (Barbara) of Alcolu; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Deyerl Squires; and a sister, Vivian Daniels. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Lewis Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve McCormick, the Rev. Jerry Watson and Champ Squires officiating. Burial will be at Brunson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Squires. Memorials may be made to Lewis Chapel United Methodist Church, 1510 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29153 or to Brunson Cemetery, c/o Patsy Watt, 200 McInnis Store Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
