Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late William Furman Rodgers and Julia Irene Stokes Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was a member of the Salvation Army Church. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and was retired from Carolina Furniture Works. Surviving are two sons, Michael Rodgers (Susan) of Waynesville, North Carolina, and Joseph Rodgers (Patti) of Shelby, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Rodgers Moye. The family would like to express a special “thank-you” to his grandchildren, Marjorie “MeMe” Montalbano, Brandon Montalbano and Brianna “The Baby” Montalbano who helped take care of him over the last several years. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1p.m. in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army-Sumter Corps, PO Box 2229, Sumter, SC 29151.
