Avin Sr. Robert Furman Avin Sr., 71, husband of Midge D. Avin, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter County on July 20, 1941, he was the son of the late James Ralph Avin and Lillie Johnson Avin. Mr. Avin was a retired Regional Manager with Pizza Hut. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; one son, Robert F. Avin Jr.; one special stepson, Jim Dyson; one stepdaughter, Shannon Renee; three other stepsons, Randy, Hardy and Heath; 10 step-grandchildren, who knew him only as “Grandpa”; and two sisters, Margaret Gertrude Frick and Alice Griffin. He was predeceased by four brothers, Roland Avin, Hubert Avin, Gene Avin and Bernard Avin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sumter Baptist Temple with the Rev. Paul Lenderman and the Rev. Eddie Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. The men of Sumter Baptist Temple will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sumter Baptist Temple. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2401 Bethel Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154; to Sumter Baptist Temple, WSSC Radio Fund; or to the Building Fund, 2295 Harper St., Sumter, SC 29150.
