BY IVY MOORE ivym@theitem.com The Oprah Winfrey Network, a.k.a. OWN, has two new shows ready to begin production - and one of them will be hosted by Zach Anner, whose grandfather, Gordon Hodge is a Sumter native who still lives here. Anner and Kristina Kuzmic-Crocco will each host shows expected to debut in the fall. Anner began competing for his show, to be called "Rollin' Around the World," in January on the reality show "Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search For the Next TV Star." At the time, the 26-year-old was living in Austin, Texas, where he was a comedian, actor and writer. Like thousands of others, he submitted an application and a video to Winfrey, who was looking for a talented individual to host his or her own TV show on her network that debuted in January on cable. Anner's proposal for a travel show drew the attention of Winfrey and her staff, as well as millions of votes from the public. Born with cerebral palsy, which he refers to as "the sexiest of the palsies," Anner, who uses a wheelchair, said, "I want to do a travel show for people who never travel," noting that he knows something will always go wrong when traveling, and he wants to demonstrate how to cope with and overcome any difficulties, even from a wheelchair. Kuzmic-Crocco's program, "Fearless Kitchen," is a cooking show that will encourage viewers to swap their bad habits, get in the kitchen and cook tasty, fresh meals. As in similar reality-competition programs, Anner and Kuzmic-Crocco faced 10 separate challenges germane to the job of TV host in as many weeks. Among the judges were Sumter native and "Entertainment Tonight" host Nancy O'Dell, Dr. Phil, financial guru Suze Orman and Winfrey. Both series will be produced by Mark Burnett Productions will begin with a six-episode contract from OWN. The programs will be broadcast on OWN, which is channel 77 on local Time-Warner Cable.
