Born on Aug. 31, 1929, in Florence, he was a son of the late Jerry Cleveland Sanders and Mary Etta Davis Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a U.S. Marine Corp and U.S. Army veteran. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was employed by NAPA Auto Parts. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include a son, Ronnie Sanders (Tina) of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Michelle Morgan (James), Bebbi Shires of Dallas, North Carikuba, Christina Wall of Mint Hill, North Carolina, David Lee Sanders (Jenna) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brian Sanders of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Curtis Whitaker of Gastonia, North Carolina; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, J.C. Sanders (Sudie) of Sumter; a sister, Christine Spigner (Charlie) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cheryl Brock and Sheila Sanders; four brothers, Jerry P. Sanders, Sylvanus Sanders, Curtis Sanders and Laverne Sanders; and three sisters, Dessie Hill, Ruby Parker and Mary Etta Eton. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tyrone Mitchum and the Rev. Kevin Cribb officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
