Sanders Sr., 81, husband of Sudie Jernigan Sanders, was called home at 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, while in the care of McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Born on June 30, 1940, in Sumter, he was the youngest son of the late Jerry Cleveland Sanders and Mary Etta Davis Sanders. J.C. was saved and became a member of Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church on May 24, 1964, where he served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher for 55 years, a deacon for 53 years and as an elder since 2016. He liked to fish and collect antiques. Most of all, he loved God, his family and his church. He retired after 44 years of employment at Korn Industries. The family would like to extend a special thank you to McLeod Hospital and McLeod Hospice House of Florence for the care given to J.C. Surviving are his wife of 59 Ѕ years; two sons, James Cleveland Sanders Jr. (Michelle) and Curtis Durant Sanders (Annette); a sister, Christine Spigner (Charles); four grandchildren, Curtis N., Jerry, Catie and Bryan Sanders; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Jerry, Sylvanus, Beauford, Fred and Curtis Sanders; and four sisters, Dessie Hill, Ruby Parker, Mary Eton and Angelia McElveen. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Paul Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Sumter First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2609 McCrays Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
