Baker Sr. of Sumter celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 20, 2008, at Lucky Corner Restaurant. A luncheon was given in their honor by their six children: Sara Fritsche, Herbert Baker, Wayne Baker, Mark Baker and Donnie Baker Jr. and his wife, Brenda, all of Sumter, and Shelby Barnes of Glen Ellen, Calif. The couple has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Baker is the former Blanche Dukes of Sumter. Posted in Life05 on Friday, January 25, 2008 DONNIE P. BAKER Sr. Donnie Paschal Baker Sr., 81, husband of Blanche Dukes Baker, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Hazel W. Sr. and Alta Horton Baker. Mr. Baker was a member of Grace Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II. He also served as a police officer for the City of Sumter. He retired from Campbell's Soup Co. Following his retirement, he operated Lake Marion Guide Service and D&B Auto Sales. Survivors besides his wife include four sons, Donnie P. Baker Jr. (Brenda), Samuel Herbert Baker, John Wayne Baker and Mark Anthony Baker, all of Sumter; two daughters, Sara Baker Fritsche and Shelby Jean Baker (Rick Barnes), both of Sumter; two brothers, Hazel W. Baker Jr. of Camden and Amos F. Baker of Hawaii; one sister, Katherine B. Evans of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler and the Rev. Charles Ahtonen officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Trey Baker, Will Fritsche, Kevin Lynn, Eddie Dukes, Joe Dukes and Dan Dukes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jack Anderson Sunday School Class of Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the home of his son, 1895 Paschal Lane. Memorials may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047 (www.lbda.org) or to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
