Gardner, 60, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alfred J. Gardner and Dorothy Mae Hobbs Gardner. Mr. Gardner worked as a medical administrator at Tuomey Healthcare System. Surviving are two daughters, Audrey Gardner Ridgill of Sumter and Sarah Gardner (Jeanette Shifflett) of Virginia; one brother, Gerald Gardner of Sumter; four sisters, Mamie Perry (Carl) of Sumter, Mary Baker (Ray) and Cheryl Burchfield (Sammy), all of Sumter, Karen Bledsoe (Greg) of Saluda; two grandchildren, Zeke Whiteside and McKenzie Whiteside; and his best friend, Mike Collins of Columbia. He was preceded in death by four sisters. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and after the services at the home of his brother-in-law, 30 Black Oak Court. Memorials may be made to Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, or to Animal Protection League, 6080 Old Leesburg Road, Hopkins. Online condolences may be sent to www.sumterfunerals.com.
