During World War II, she taught at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and Greenwood High School. She later resumed teaching at Lander College where she also served as Social Director for 20 years. She was a founding director of the YMCA, a board member of the Lander University Foundation, a charter board member of the Bowers-Rodgers Home for Abused Children and also a board member of the S. C. State Museum. She was a member of the Tulip Garden Club and an accredited flower show judge. She wa a member of the Catchee Literary Club and a member of the Colonial Dames of the 18th Century. She was a member of American Mothers, Inc. and in 1991 was named S. C. State Mother of the Year. Also in 1991, she was presented the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award as Outstanding Alumna of WInthrop College for that years. She was a recipient of one of the first two medallions presented by Lander University. In 1994, she was presented the Order of the Palmetto by the then-Governor of South Carolina. [3, 5] |
