Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Alvin Avin and Ruth Griffin Avin. Mr. Avin was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Sumter where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. He retired from National Linen Service after 36 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; two daughters, Merri Simpson (Buddy) and Mandy Faulling (Tim), both of Sumter; two grandchildren, Tee Faulling and Barry Simpson; two sisters, Carol Scurry of Florence and Jeanette Rosenbaum (John) of Pawley's Island; and one brother, Oscar Avin of Sumter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Bugler and Christine Corbett; and one brother, Lynwood Avin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Sumter with the Rev. Dan Barber and the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friday Morning Prayer Group of First Baptist Church and the Triune Sunday school class. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1, 2, 3, 6]
