Berry Alma Ruth Morris Berry, 79, widow of Walter Laverne Berry, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Ezra and Geneva Baker Morris. Mrs. Berry was a lifelong member of the Elks Club and was a retired secretary with Santee Print Works. Surviving are one son, Steven Wayne Berry and wife, Deborah; two daughters, Debbie Ardis and husband, Jimmy, and Kathy Thynes; one sister, Elma Berry, all of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Laverne Berry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Pressley officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
