She was active in community affairs, volunteering for the American Red Cross, Clarendon County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, and the Palmetto Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was the 2000 Volunteer of the Year for the Mid-State S. C. Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames. She founded and was a charter member of the Clarendon Pilot Club, where she also served as president, co-director of community projects, and on the State Board of Governors.
