• Notes

  A planter, he resided in Salem County, Claremont Dist. In 1822 his father gave him 450 acnear the Black River and later on he bought 740 ac adjoining. Thru the years he acquired substantial nearby property,including the glebe lands of Salem Black River Church,200 ac,and 2,384 ac near the town of Bishopville, upon which he built his residence. He owned 62 slaves. He was elected to the House representating Claremont Dist. for the 32nd Gen Assy. in 1836. He was sent to the Senate for the 33rd and 34th Gen Assy. in 1838. He held various offices in other endeavors. He died intestate athis residence.
