| HIST | of Long Island, New York of Simpsonville, South Carolina of Sumter, South Carolina LAURA KIRVEN ONSRUD Posted Wednesday, April 16, 2025 1:21 pm Laura Kirven Onsrud, 93, widow of David Onsrud, died Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at home. Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Kirven and Eva Chandler Kirven. Mrs. Onsrud was a graduate of East Carolina University, majoring in Education. She taught in Burlington and Fayetteville, North Carolina, and in Sumter, subsequently, moving to Smithtown, New York, where she taught for 31 years at the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School before retiring in 1991 and moving with her husband to Simpsonville. She was an active member of the Simpsonville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Altar Guild, and chairperson for the Faith Circle for a number of years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Julie Kirven Griffin (Lynwood) of Sumter, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ophelia Kirven, and brothers, Joe C. Kirven, Russell Kirven, Danny Kirven, Larry Kirven and Tom Kirven. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph James officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025, in the church parlor. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Day School, 226 W.
