Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Hugh and Etta Lee Shaw McCollum. Mrs. Holman was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Queens College with a bachelor's degree in history. She was a retired kindergarten teacher at First Presbyterian Church and Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Hughla Lee, affectionately known as "Honey," was a lifelong resident of Sumter, and an active member of her church and community. She was a sustaining member of the Sumter Junior League and an active member in several community book clubs. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling with her husband, and visiting Pawley's Island with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who had a witty sense of humor and enjoyed making her family feel loved. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Francis, for more than 50 years. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Lee Holman Davis (Ed) of Chesterfield and Lillis Holman McCormic (William) of Clemson; one son, Frank Kennedy Holman (Ellen) of Greenville; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Martha Shaw. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillis McCollum Allston. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Mark Durrett officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
