DAVID C. SHAW Jr.
FLORENCE – David Charles Shaw Jr., son of the late Elizabeth Cole and D. Charles Shaw Sr., died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, after a long illness.
He is survived by his children, David Paul (Susan) Shaw of Scranton and Christy Shaw of Florence; granddaughter, Christine Ann Shaw of Conway; sisters, Susan S. (Jim) Hufham of Charleston, Katie (Bob) Mort of Elgin, and Elaine (Robert) Hynes and Marie (Curtis) Hodge, both of Sumter.
He was predeceased by his biological mother, Dorothy Heckel; and a sister, Margaret Shaw Pruett.
A member of Christ Episcopal Church, Mr. Shaw was a lifelong volunteer in the community. He was a charter member and twice squadron commander of Swamp Fox Power Squadron; district commander (1987) of USPS District 26; past president of Florence Kiwanis Club; past member of the board of directors for the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault; and active for many years with the Boy Scouts of America and Camp Coker Boy Scout Camp.
Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Carlisle Military Academy and received his bachelor of science and masters of science degrees in applied psychology from Francis Marion University. Mr. Shaw was retired as president of Shaw Lumber Co., and served as a state constable.
Graveside services for Mr. Shaw will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home.
