"Cricket" Chappell, 71, wife of Howard Chappell, passed away on April 9, 2005, at Lexington Medical Center. Born in Alcolu, she was the daughter of the late Dewey S. and Olivia Prescott Taylor. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a homemaker, caring for her husband of 53 years and their two sons. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Wayne H. Chappell and his wife, Cathy, of Sumter; Gary L. Chappell of Sumter; five grandchildren, Brent H. Chappell, Christopher Lee Chappell, Corey Lee Chappell, Payton Vance Chappell and Victoria Lasseigne; two great-grandchildren, Grace Ann and Landon Lasseigne; two brothers, Dewey Wyman Taylor of Sumter and James W. "Bo" Taylor of Ladson; one sister, Mary Ellen Bilton of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Bullock Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Burgess and the Rev. Pheron Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Wayne and Cathy Chappell or the home of Howard and Emma Chappell. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 2401 Bethel Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154 in care of the building fund.
