  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina ROSA LEE P. BALLARD Rosa Lee Porter Ballard, 90, widow of James Ballard Sr., died June 28, 2005, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 23, 1914, in Dalzell, she was a daughter of the late Dave Porter Sr. and Annie Sumpter Porter. She attended the public schools in Sumter County. Mrs. Ballard was a kind, loving person who was an inspiration to many. Survivors include one son, Charles (Lucinda J.) Ballard of San Leandro, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Isaiah Porter of Sumter; three sisters, Alma Mitchell of Jersey City, N.J., Aggie Bradley and Nancy Porter, both of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Porter and Doretha Porter, both of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, James Ballard Jr.; and five brothers, Thomas, Dave Jr., Joseph, John and James Porter. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday in the Parlor of Job's Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dorothy Maple. Burial will be held in Joshua Baptist Church Cemetery, Dalzell. The family is receiving friends at the home of her sister, Nancy Porter, 913 Joseph St., Sumter.
