BERNSHOUSE Wilbert Holladay Bernshouse, 93, husband of Virginia Reardon Bernshouse, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Andrew K. Bernshouse and the late Elizabeth Holladay Bernshouse. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member and teacher of the Trinity Fellowship Class for more than 50 years. He was the retired manager of the Palmetto Pigeon Plant and served with the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he helped in the construction of fire towers. He was a Boy Scout Master with more than 40 years of service with Troop No. 38, Cub Pack No. 338 and Troop No. 336. Bernshouse, an Eagle Scout, was also the recipient of the Silver Beaver award and led 75 Eagle Scouts under his leadership. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, of Sumter; a son, David Bernshouse and wife, Rose Ann, of Victoria, Miss.; a daughter, Wilbur B. Shumaker and husband, Norman Jr., of Sumter; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Jennings of Sumter and Selma Petters of Blue Anchor, N.J. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Taylor and the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. Pallbearers will be David Shumaker, Jim Strong, Bill Reardon, Bob Reardon, Herb Womble, L.W. Jennings, Jim Piver, John Petters and Robert Petters. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Trinity Fellowship Class. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 226 W.
