He enjoyed quail hunting with his longtime friend, Toby Reynolds. He was an avid gardener. He was inducted into the Newberry Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994, and was recognized by the S. C. Baseball Coaches Association as the 1992 Honorary All Star Coach. He was a member of Who’s Who and was honored in 2003 by the Bishopville Country Club with a golf tournament in recognition for his many years of service and decication.
