ROUNETTE V. CHEWNING
MANNING – Rounette Virginia Chewning, 91, widow of Reginald "Bump" Chewning, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at her home in Manning.
Born Nov. 3, 1913, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Edward A. and Annie Thames McCabe. She was a member of Jordan United Methodist Church. Mrs. Chewning was a member of the Virginia Pride Garden Club, Alzheimer's Support Group, and United Methodist Women.
Surviving are a daughter, Jarma Jean Hewitt of Manning; a daughter-in-law, Rose Chewning of Union; two grandsons, Kenneth Dickson Chewning of Franklin, W.Va., and Jonathan Craig Hewitt of Manning; five sisters, Edna Lowder of Manning, Erma Prescott of Sumter, Merceline Richburg of Moncks Corner, Deraldine Cooper of West Columbia, and Betty Roof of Sulfolk, Va.; a sister-in-law, Jessie McCabe of Alcolu; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Reginald Claude Chewning; a grandson, Reggie Chewning; two sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Revs. Miriam Hadden and Joe Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Lowder, Legare McCabe, Edward McCabe, Joe Graham, Johnny Prescott and Billy Haltiwanger.
Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Baynard, Charles Graham, Bill Casey, Elbert Brewer, James Rawlinson, Pete Duke, Rick Stewart, Alex Thompson and Sonny Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning and at other times at the residence, 6426 S.C. 260, Manning.
