Lowder, died on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at her home. Born on Dec. 11, 1939, in Mullins, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Claudius and Alliene Leach Chewning. Mrs. Lowder was a very active member of Bethel Methodist Church in Oswego, where she served as treasurer for many years. She was a retired school teacher. She loved the Oswego community and especially the neighborhood children. She was a very witty and humorous lady and was always the life of the party. She loved gardening. Survivors include four children, Bobby Lowder of Mayesville, Maryanne Lowder of Sumter, Marty Sturgeon (Bobby) of Paxville and Tom Lowder (Angie) of Tupelo, Mississippi; a daughter-in-law, Kim Lowder; stepchildren, Debbie Ehlers of Sumter and Skip Lowder (Patricia) of Senatobia, Mississippi; grandchildren, Chrissy Hodge, Heather Jones, Justin Lowder, Skyler Lowder, Wesley Lowder, Amber Scamardo, Troy Lamontagne, Autumn Christman and a special granddaughter, McKenzie Lowder; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Scott "Scotty" Lowder; two grandsons, Brandon Lowder and Keith Lowder; and siblings, Claudius Chewning Jr., Gene Chewning, the Rev. Boyd Chewning and Iris Beaver. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Bethel Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Whited officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Lowder, Tyler Christman, Troy Lamontagne, Tripp Boney, Ricky McDaniel and Ronald McDaniel. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made to Bethel Methodist Church, 5575 Lodebar Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
