Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Ina Reid Bracey Barfield and the late Robert Carl Barfield. A graduate of Sumter Technical College, she was employed in various positions with Heathwood Hall Episcopal School for 34 years. Though her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family, she also enjoyed traveling, walking, decorating and reading. Mrs. Cantey was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, where she served on the Pastor Search Committee. She was a longtime member of the Junior League of Columbia and the Columbia Assembly. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Moorer Cantey; two sons, Joseph Moorer Cantey Jr. and Andrew Bradley Cantey, and a daughter, Whitney Elizabeth Cantey, all of Columbia; mother of Sumter; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Sidney and Cindy Barfield of Lexington; and sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Reid Barfield Johnson and Herbert Lee Johnson of Columbia. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Trenholm Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens.
