PAYNE Posted Friday, August 31, 2018 6:00 am Mary Elizabeth Fraser Payne, 73, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William Washington Fraser Sr. and Mary Billups Fraser. Mary was a retired registered nurse and was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Lion's Club in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where she received numerous awards for her service to mankind. She is survived by a son, John Randolph Payne Jr. of Asheville, North Carolina; a daughter, Cynthia Marie Payne of Asheville; three brothers, Will Fraser Jr. (Crystal), Howard Lawrence Fraser (Gulie) and Hugh McCutcheon Fraser, all of Sumter; a sister, Martha Ann Pat Fraser of Sumter; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hebron Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Humphries officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron Presbyterian Church, c/o Will Fraser, 5300 Martinville Church Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
