Evelyn Carter Jones, 89, widow of Howell Eppes Jones, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia.
Born in Sardis, she was a daughter of the late John Milton Carter and Corinna Belle Hudson Carter. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. She was a retired registered nurse and served as head of the pediatric ward at Tuomey Hospital with 35 years of service.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Christopher Carter Jones and wife, Pam, of Eastover; a daughter, Barbara Jones Luksik and husband, Darrin, of Columbia; and a grandson, Jacob Carter Luksik.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Hamilton Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
