  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina JOYCE THOMPSON LINK Posted Wednesday, November 1, 2023 6:00 am Joyce Thompson Link, 95, widow of James Albert Link, died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at Covenant Place. Born on May 14, 1928, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Edward Thompson and Caroline McCollum Daniels Thompson. She was a charter member of Crosswell Baptist Church, where she served in the nursery for many years and enjoyed sharing her love for Jesus with the children. She was a volunteer at Tuomey Hospital for more than 40 years and retired as a co-owner of Link Properties. Survivors include two children, Yvonne Evans (Ken) and Wayne Link (Lori); four grandchildren, Caroline McClellan (Kyle), Carrie Watford (Steven), Clay Link (Brittany) and Lauren Geddings (Corey); and 10 great-grandchildren, Ivey Leigh, Benton, Anna Pearl, Elizabeth Joyce "Zippie," Tripp, Avery, Ruby Kate, Hazel, Laynee Jane and Sarah Gale. She was preceded in death by six sisters and six brothers, many of whom served in World War II and other conflicts. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Crosswell Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Owens and the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Link, Corey Geddings, Steven Watford, Kyle McClellan, Wil DuBose and Gene Boyce. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Crosswell Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Crosswell Baptist Church, 604 Mathis St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to Covenant Place HEGF (Hourly Employee Gift Fund), 2825 Carter Road, Sumter, SC 29150. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Covenant Place for the loving care shown to Mrs. Link and her family.
