WORRELL Posted: Monday, November 5, 2007 12:00 am | Updated: 6:45 pm, Thu Feb 25, 2010. Jack Carter Worrell, 88, husband of Geraldine Pierce Worrell, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at his home. Born in Evergreen, he was a son of the late Henry Worrell and the late Hattie Carter Worrell. Mr. Worrell, "The Barefoot Man," was the owner and operator of Worrell's Body Shop. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Elks. Survivors besides his wife include four children, Diane W. Mims and her husband, Tommy, of Sumter, Ralph Francis Worrell and his wife, Betty, of Beaufort, Jackie W. Barr of Columbia and Debbie W. Prescott of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Sherry Ann Kolb of Columbia, James G. "J.G." Harvin, J.D. and Betty Williams, Vermell Levane and Alan and Barbara Phillips, all of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Mark Barnette, Charles Clanton and Sammy Geddings officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Roy Mims III, Jack Carter Worrell, Tony Michael Prescott, Christopher Carter Prescott, Lawson Haynes Barr III and Cameron Parker Prescott; and special friends, James G. "J.G." Harvin and Alan Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Triune Sunday school class of First Baptist Church, Dr. High Stoddard and Dr. Phil Brandt. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
