Rabon Jr., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the home of her daughter. Born Dec. 6, 1933, in Olanta, she was a daughter of the late Shelley Edward and Gladys Farrow Thigpen. Mrs. Rabon was a member of Wise Drive Nazarene Church (formally Boulevard Church of the Nazarene), which she and her husband helped start in 1958. She worked at Southern Bell Telephone Co. a short while before her 45-year career with Pioneer Ltd. and Glenn Manufacturing Co., where she retired as a bias machine operator. At that time, she continued her education at Central Carolina Technical College. Surviving are one son, Randy English and wife, Angela, of Sumter; one daughter, Cindy E. Walzer and husband, James, of Sumter; two stepdaughters, Nancy Lamar of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dorothy Bender and husband, Ralph, of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Brenda Geddings and husband, Ralph, of Sumter and Shelley Bendel and husband, Jim, of Sumter; two brothers, Bobby Thigpen and wife, Eloise, of Hollywood and Danny Thigpen and wife, Shirley, of Lexington; three grandchildren, Kimberly Rae Banasiewicz and husband, Brent, Lindsey Stevens and husband, Allen, and Blake English and wife, Tacey, all of Sumter; and five great-grandchildren, Adam Banasiewicz, Jacob Banasiewicz, John Brody Banasiewicz, Emily Stevens and Riley English, all of Sumter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dot Galloway; and a niece, Vickie Geddings Gainey. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating, assisted by J.C. Sanders. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Blake English, Brent Banasiewicz and Allen Stevens, son-in-law, James Walzer, and brothers-in-law, Ralph Geddings and Jim Bendel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 1810 Jefferson Road. Memorials may be made to Tuomey Hospice, 500 Pinewood Road, Suite 2, Sumter, SC 29154 or to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to her special niece, Debbie Sims; her friend, Becky McDuffie, whom she considered her "angel on earth;" and to Tuomey Hospice caregivers, Debbie Thames Frazier, Doris Brooks and Jim Langlois; and to Dr. McDonald DuBose.
