He died from a heart attack brought on by injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Alma, Georgia, the preceding Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred when he, driving back to Hollywood, Florida, from the family’s summer home at Lakemont, in North Georgia, put on his brakes to avoid striking a car that had stopped in front of him. His car skidded on the wet pavement and overturned three times when it struck the sand at the edge of the highway. He was thrown out and suffered a crushed chest. Mrs. David serverely unjured- Other members of the family were pinned under the car until Sam David, riding in the front seat beside his father, got out and helped free his mother and grandmother and two sisters, Shirley and Sarah. Mrs. David suffered a deep gash clear across the scalp that necessitated three stitches to close and also a bad sprained back. Her mohter, Mrs. McGowan, was bruised about the face and body. Shirley David suffered a deep cut on the arm. Sarah and Sam were uninjured. Heart Attack Sunday- Mr. and Mrs. David were rushed to the county hospital at Alma, Georgia, and all possible attention given. B. L. David, Jr., Ted and Bob David, who came through to Hollywood in another car without learning of the accident, returned at once to Alma to be near their parents. As late as Wednesday noon word came that Mr. David, after a hard battle against a heart attack Sunday, was gaining and only needed time to complete his recovery. Mrs. David, although suffering considerable pain, is not considered in danger. When word came of the Hollywood postmaster’s death, the hundreds of friends were shocked and saddened. For sixteen years Mr. David had been an intergral part of Hollywood and his loss will be felt by citizens in every walk of life. Locally he served as city commissioner and vice-mayor and could have held the mayorship had he desired. After his army service, he returned to his home town of Comer in 1911 and established himself in business, starting a small grocery. He served on the town council from 1914 until he resigned to move to Florida. [1] |
