| HIST | from Sumter, South Carolina of Wedgefield, South Carolina BETTY FRANCES SMITH ENGLISH Posted Thursday, May 29, 2025 8:47 am Betty Frances Smith English, 82, was called away to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Born in Darlington County on July 26, 1942, she was a daughter of Donald T. Smith and Sally Smith Medlin. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby McLendon (Kevin); son, Tracy English Jr. (Sandy); grandchildren, Elaine Freed (Ron), the Rev. Dennis Michael Bowman (Kathy), Brittani Fulmer (Cory), Rebekah Scott (Coker) and Taylor O’Connor (Nate); and great-grandchildren, Samuel Bowman, Cameron Bowman, Kaiden Bennett, Eleanor Fulmer, Declan O’Connor, Dalton Scott and Elara O’Connor. She is also survived by grandson-in-love Michael Spinks. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her cherished husband of 56 years, Tracy English Sr.; brother, Charles Smith; and sister Ruby Jean Smith. Mrs. English was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, upholstering and gardening. Most of all, she was a loving, caring mother who cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Most importantly, she treasured every moment spent with her husband (her Tracy) – whether it was trips to the mountains, spending time with friends and family, fishing or time alone together. Mrs. English later entered the workforce and was a dedicated employee of 28 years at Becton-Dickinson in Sumter. She was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church and a charter member of Smithville Evangelical Baptist Church for 42 years, where she served at various times as a Sunday School teacher, youth chorus leader and youth director. She had a beautiful voice and often sang solos and duets at church with her pastor, the Rev. T.T. Floyd. She also was a member of Smithville Ladies Auxiliary. In her later years, she enjoyed attending Green Acres Assembly of God and Sumter First Church of God with her family. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Dennis Michael Bowman and the Rev. Charles Owens. Pallbearers will be Ron Freed, Bill Wheeler, Nate O’Connor, Coker Scott, Samuel Bowman and Cameron Bowman. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Spinks, Chris Oswald and Billy Hudson. Services will be Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Sumter Cemetery. The family would like to extend its gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. English’s longtime physician, Dr. Hugh Stoddard, and the staffs at Amedisys, S.C. House Calls, The Gardens at Sumter and the Terrace for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Green Acres Assembly of God, 537 Lewis Road, Sumter, SC 29154; Crosswell Baptist Church Keenagers, P.O.
