EDNA A. WELCH SARDINIA - Edna Anderson Welch, 94, widow of Samuel Maxley Welch, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Lake City. Born Jan. 31, 1916, in Barrineau, she was a daughter of the late Eddie and Huldi Barfield Anderson. She was a retired farmer, housewife and was of the Holiness faith. Surviving are a daughter, Linnie Bell Chockley of Lake City; four sons, Ernest Welch of Sardinia, Kenneth Welch of Turbeville and Ed Welch and Bobby Welch, both of Gable; a brother, Buddy Anderson of Manning; three sisters, Juanita Anderson Parker and Maree Anderson Bryant, both of Sumter, and Ruth Anderson Blake of Charleston; 30 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 52 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four children, Sam Welch Jr., Delbert Welch, Jewell Mae Johnson and Ernest Dalton Welch; two brothers, Pearly and Lamb Anderson; and a sister, Lizzie Anderson Christmas Floyd. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Wayne Windham and the Rev. Raymond Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Christian Church cemetery in New Zion. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Russell "Shorty" Welch, Bobby Welch Jr., Gary Chockley, Kent Welch, LaRue Welch and Michael Welch. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 830 Gracelyn Circle, Lake City.
