| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina formerly of Walkerton, Indiana Peggy Kearney Peggy Mardell Davis Kearney, age 90, beloved wife of the late James Joseph Kearney Jr., died on Friday, April 4, 2014, at McElveen Manor. Born in Walnut Ridge, Ark., she was a daughter of the late Guy and Clara Hager Davis. Peggy Kearney retired from Farmers State Bank, Walkerton, Ind., in 1987. After the passing of her husband, she moved to South Carolina in 1998. From 1999 to 2012, she volunteered more than 10,000 hours at Tuomey, many hours at Sumter Senior Services, and in the office at the Exhibition Center. She also served as president of RSVP Advisory Board for Sumter Senior Services. Peggy received many awards, among them the “Point of Light” for volunteerism from President George H.W. Bush and the 2001 South Carolina Governor’s Senior Volunteer of the Year Award. She enjoyed crocheting, China painting, and reading in her spare time. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth L. Haynes and his wife, Leslie, of Taos, N.M., and James J. Kearney III and his wife, Donna, of Sumter; six brothers, Thomas Kearney and his wife, Barbara, of Indiana, Charles Davis of Texas, James Davis and his wife, Rosemary, of Nevada, Donald Davis of Nevada, and John Davis and his wife, Patricia, of Nevada; three sisters, Dorothy Cline and her husband, Richard, of Indiana, Elaine Jachim of Indiana and Dorothy Burnhorn and her husband, Frank, of Colorado; six grandchildren, Suzie Kearney, Jimmer Kearney, Becky Mouradjian and her husband, Michael, Perry Haynes and his wife, Janice, Tommy Haynes and his wife, Marilyn, and Lenore and her husband, Michael; and five great-grandchildren, McKayla, Kiersten, Autumn, Josh and Destiny. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Myra Johnson. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Burke, C.Ss.R. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Anne / St. Jude 521 Building Fund, 216 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
