Weathersbee Darlene Kirby Weathersbee, 83, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born May 2, 1928, in Olanta, she was a daughter of the late Aught and the late Anna Carraway Kirby. Prior to her retirement, Darlene was a well-known florist and wedding director for more than 45 years. Darlene was one of the founding members of St. John's United Methodist Church. Darlene, or "Dot Dot" to many, is survived by a son, Mike Weathersbee; a daughter, Cathy Starnes (Jackie); a grandson, Jay Starnes (Kristy); a great-grandson, Logan Ryan Starnes; and a very special niece, Betty Fralick (Irvin). She was preceded in death by Colin M. Weathersbee Jr.; two brothers, Fred Kirby and Alton Kirby; and her most beloved sister, Merlene Moore. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Paxville Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Huggins officiating. Pallbearers will be Rusty Lewis, Gary Wannamaker, Rusty Garrett, Jeffrey Fralick, Ricky Weathersbee and Gary Weathersbee. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of her daughter, 5536 Summerton Highway, Silver community. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 136 Poinsett Drive, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
