Elizabeth "Lib" Dagley, 90, widow of Ray H. Dagley, passed away in her home on Leonard Brown Road, Tuesday, May 5, 2009, after a long illness.
Born Oct. 22, 1918, in Ehrhardt, she was a daughter of the late Frank Kirkland and Elizabeth "Bessie" McKnight Graham. Mrs. Dagley retired from the City of Sumter. An accomplished amateur artist, she also enjoyed other creative hobbies. Late in life, she developed an interest in horses and acquired a proficient knowledge of the Paso Fino breed.
All her adult life, Elizabeth was an avid student of the Bible. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, she taught a ladies Sunday school class and occasionally spoke in other churches. Characteristically, Lib was ever mindful of the poor.
She is survived by two children, Frank A. Dagley of Mobile, Ala., and Bunny Dagley of the home; a brother, Harry A. Graham of Charlotte, N.C.; a twin sister, Jennie G. Free of Lincolnton, N.C., and Margaret A. Graham of Sumter; grandchildren, Patrick L. Burk of Savannah, Ga., Cindy B. VanSandt of Rockwood, Tenn., Valerie McMickens of Mobile and Michael Dagley of Orange Beach, Ala.; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank K. Graham Jr., James O. "Buddy" Graham and Asbury K. Graham.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with nephews, Dr. J. Dixon Free Jr. and the Rev. H. Allan Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandson Patrick L. Burk; nephew Scott B. Free; great-nephew Joseph D. Free III; and friends Dennis Earnhardt, J.T. James III and John J. Reyling.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
