MACON HODGE
FLORENCE -- Macon Hodge, 91, of Florence, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mr. Hodge was born in Sumter County, a son of the late George Washington and Mary Leah Bartlett Hodge. He was a past member of the South Carolina National Guard and a member of the Woodmen of the World Walnut Chapter No. 52. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, an usher and a member of the church brotherhood. He retired in 1983 as a route salesman for Palmetto Linen Service and was later employed as an automobile transporter for Enterprise Car Rental. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elma Louise Greene Hodge; son, Macon Hodge Jr.; brothers, Leonard Hodge, Bill Hodge and Randall Hodge; and sister, Lily Hodge Ridgeway.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Victor Ray Hodge and Michael Adam (Kimberly) Hodge, both of Florence, and Perry Lee (Amy) Hodge of Timmonsville; brothers, Alex (Edna Mae) Hodge of Marion and Jimmy (Yvonne) Hodge of Sumter; sister, Lottie Mae Hill of Alcolu and Betty Graham of Florence; great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Gainey of Timmonsville, Jacob Hodge, Jordon Hodge and Tyler Hodge, all of Florence, and Dustin and Dylan Macon Hodge, both of Timmonsville; great-great-grandchildren, Emily and Ella Gainey, both of Timmonsville, and Kylan McDill of Florence.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 306 W. Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
