EMERSON Posted Wednesday, January 17, 2007 7:00 pm COLUMBIA -- Helen Mooneyhan Emerson, 95, widow of Ralph Waldo Emerson, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the home of her nephew in West Columbia. Born in Elliott, she was a daughter of the late Charles Green Mooneyhan and the late Essie Lindler Mooneyhan. Mrs. Emerson was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church in Elliott and was a graduate of Winthrop College. She was employed as the secretary to the chairman of the board of the South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., retiring in 1975 with 40 years of service. She was a member of the Mid-Carolina Camellia Society and the American Camellia Society. She was an avid camellia lover and a great sportswoman. Surviving are a brother, James R. Mooneyhan of Charleston; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Ridenhour and Susan Price officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m Friday at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mid-Carolina Camellia Society, 409 Groves Street, Lugoff, SC 29078.
