Zeigler, 79, of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007. He was born in Orangeburg on October 29, 1927, to the late Jacob Zeigler and Daisy Amaker Zeigler. Mr. Zeigler served in the Navy during World War II and Korea. He returned to his hometown Orangeburg and served as a fireman for many years, before moving to Columbia in 1965. In Columbia, he was employed as a barber and also in marketing with Richland Wholesale Distributors. Mr. Zeigler served as deacon of Airport Baptist Church, and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carolyn Stephens Zeigler; children, Joe Douglas and wife, Cathy, of Great Falls, Cheryle Zeigler Parker of Gaston and John W. Zeigler and wife, Janice, of Sumter; brothers, J. H. Zeigler and wife, Almeda, of Orangeburg and Wilbur Zeigler and wife, Wendy, of Columbia; 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Cyril N. "Sonny" Douglas, sister, Thelma Godwin, and brother, Eugene Zeigler. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Airport Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Lynch officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be sent to Airport Baptist Church, 1269 Boston Ave., West Columbia, SC 29170.
