Lowder, Sr., died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at a local nursing facility. Born February 9, 1935 in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Golden Mitchum and the late Mary Lee Rushing Mitchum. Survivors include her husband of 58 years; one daughter, Derlene Lowder of Sumter; two sons, Derle A. Lowder, Jr. (Linda Ann) of Sumter and Michael Lowder (Lorelei) of Watkinsville, GA; seven grandchildren, Melisa (John), Chad, Colton, Sierra, Sammy, Jacob, and Quintin; two brothers, Leonard Mitchum (Mary Jo) of Paxville and Richard L. “Rick” Mitchum (Dee) of Sumter; four sisters, Earlene Deese and Dorothy Baird both of Sumter, Patricia Driggers of Timmonsville, and Susan Britting (Frank) of Columbia. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thetis M. Hucks and Linda Bradford Davis. Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews, James Crosby, Kenny Crosby, Stephen Wilcox, Scott Bradford, David Mitchum, and Chip Lowder. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Lowder, Charlie DuBose, Jimmy Saunders, Willie Hodge, and Wilbur Lowder. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150 or to the Foundation for Independence, 1410 Boston Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29170. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [2]
