Worrell Posted: Wednesday, April 20, 2011 6:00 am Geraldine Pierce Worrell, 92, widow of Jack Carter Worrell, died Monday, April 18, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Worrell was born Feb. 22, 1919, in Detroit, Mich. Geraldine, also known by many as "Non," will always be remembered for her caring and giving spirit. She was an active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Sumter. She would visit the homebound and nursing homes, taking home cooked meals for many years. Her life was dedicated to being a help mate to her husband, Jack, at Worrell's Body Shop. She always had three hot meals on the table for her family. Besides raising her four children, she helped raise several of her grandchildren and "adopted" children. Their friends were always welcome in her home. Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Survivors include four children, Diane W. Mims (Tommy) of Sumter, Ralph Francis Worrell (Betty) of Beaufort, Jackie W. Barr of Sumter and Deborah W. Prescott Newman (Eddie) of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and close family friends, James G. "J.G." Harvin of Sumter, Sherry Ann Kolb of Chapin and Allen and Barbara Phillips of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Clanton and the Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Grandsons Jack C. Worrell, Thomas R. Mims, L. Haynes Barr III, T. Michael Prescott II, Christopher C. Prescott and Cameron P. Prescott will serve as pallbearers. James G. Harvin, Allen Phillips, James D. Williams, Herbert "Roy" Powell, Ronnie Green and the Ruth Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at her home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Thomas and Carrie Davis' Gospel Work with Peace Catalyst International (www.peace-catalyst.net), an initiative of Allegro, checks may be made to "Allegro," PO Box 1143, Elgin, SC 29205; Tuomey Hospice, 500 Pinewood Road, Suite 2, Sumter, SC 29154; or to a charity of one's choice.
