CHAFFINS WEST COLUMBIA -- Services for Dorothy Browder Chaffins, 74, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia, conducted by the Rev. Jesse D. Simmons Sr. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Chaffins, Ed Wessel, Reed Schultz, Darwin Weaver, Lloyd Barnett and Travis Mead. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Chaffins, widow of Coy Chaffins Sr., died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Odessa Coker Browder. Formerly of Sumter, she had been an area resident since 1964 and was a member of West Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Chaffins was retired from Ft. Jackson. Surviving are her daughters, Gloria Wessel of Deltona, Fla., and Melanie Martin of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Coy Chaffins Jr. and Margo Chaffins of West Columbia, Robert Chaffins of Lexington, Troy and Lanae Chaffins of Gaston, Eric Chaffins of Gaston, Kevin and Jean Chaffins of West Columbia; sisters, Nell Yates, Joann Browder-Carroll and Ethel Browder, all of Sumter; brothers, Edwin Browder and Cecil Browder, both of Sumter; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
