McFaddin Violet Elma Jackson McFaddin, widow of Joseph Rittener McFaddin, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Formerly a resident of Sumter, she most recently resided at "The Haven" in Charlotte, N.C. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home, 221 Broad St., Sumter. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service with graveside services at the McFaddin Cemetery in Gable, following the funeral service. Born Oct. 14, 1927, in Lee County, Violet was a daughter of the late Tommy Henry Sr. and Gussie P. Jackson. Violet was educated in Manning and apprenticed herself as a legal secretary at the age of 16. Following this, she worked as a legal secretary until her retirement. Violet was formerly a member of Holy Cross Presbyterian Church in Sumter, where she was active in the Ladies' Circle. She later attended First Assembly of God in Sumter, until her illness. Violet is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Jeff Barnes of Summerville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Edie McFaddin of Lexington; and daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Don Coleman of Charlotte. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Rebecca, Deborah, Joye and Esther Barnes; Matthew, Katie and John McFaddin; Christopher and wife, Melissa Coleman, and Kyle and David Coleman; as well as a great-grandson, Jasper Groth. She is also survived by a sister, Lila Sue Thompson; brothers, Victor and Tommy Jackson; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Violet was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Barnes, in 2003.
