For twelve years after they married, Frank and Hattie lived on the Dozier-Exum plantation, “Mossdale”, 16 miles from Georgetown on the Black River. In 1879, the home burned, and the family spent the summer on a flat boat at North Inlet. Later they lived 12 years in Georgetown, where Frank was engineer on Waccamaw River steamers. They later moved to Murrells Inlet, where in Oct 1892 their house and all their possessions was destroyed by a tidal wave. After their house was destroyed by the tidal wave, they moved by rowboat to higher ground and built a home called “Oceanview.” [3] |
