Born on Nov. 13, 1961, in Bishopville, he was a son of the late Edward and Becky Herrington Atkinson. He was a retired painter. Survivors include two brothers, Edward Atkinson Jr. (Ada) and Billy Atkinson (Wanda), both of Sumter; four sisters, Eloise Thigpen (Robert) and Betty Gomah, both of Charleston, Linda Walker of Summerville and Josie Hancock of Sumter; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, in the Wells Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Hal Thompson and the Rev. Wayne McElveen. Memorials may be sent to the Wells Cemetery, c/o Carol Richardson, 2289 Dog Island Road, Bishopville, SC 29010.
