GLENNA LEE SCHMIDT Glenna Lee Schmidt, 73, wife of Richard James Schmidt, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Bristol, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Nina Offield Dodson. Mrs. Schmidt was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was retired from the National Bank of South Carolina. Survivors include her husband of Sumter; a daughter, Angel Nelson Timmons (Bucky); a son, Richard Lewis Nelson; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Schmidt; two stepsons, Tony Schmidt and Paul Schmidt; five grandchildren, Steven Timmons, Kevin Timmons, Amber Schmidt, Harley Nelson and Andrew Nelson; two brothers, Vernon Dodson (Iris) of Bristol and Lawrence Dodson (Rita) of Morristown, Tenn.; and two sisters, Gladys Cook (Hershel) and Ellen Dodson, both of Bristol. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted Lewis Nelson; a grandson, Christian Schmidt; and three sisters, Darlene Nelson, Verna Ayers and Ruby Dodson. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mark Bordeaux officiated. The family will receive friends at the home, 2640 Hodge St. Memorial may be made to the Westside Baptist Church Building Fund, 554 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
