Born July 16, 1936, in Sumter County, she was the first child of the late Earl O’Neil McCoy Sr. and Ellen Hodge McCoy. After graduating from Edmunds High School in 1954, she attended Columbia College. She fell in love with “the boy across the field” in her hometown of Oswego. She and David were happily married for 62 years. They lived a life of service to God, country and fellow man. They both worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., until David enlisted in the U.S. Army and was recruited into the Defense Attache’. That led to an adventure of a lifetime for the Burns family. They lived in Ankara, Turkey; Cairo, Egypt; Vienna, Austria; and Tehran, Iran, as well as several states in the U.S. When David retired in 1976, the family returned to their roots in Sumter County, and Pat worked for the magistrate's office. Pat used her musical gift to entertain residents in several nursing homes. She served as secretary of Maizie’s Place, a support group for people with Alzheimer’s. She received the Davis D. Moise, M.D. Award for significant contributions to the recovery of people with mental illness by The Candlelight Vigil Committee. She was also an accomplished artist. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Methodist Oswego and served as pianist for over 35 years. She was the historian and co-chaired the memorable 150th anniversary church celebration.
