Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late William Lew Player and the late Sue Stone Player. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher and choir member of First Baptist Church. She was a kindergarten teacher at Aldersgate United Methodist Church and a Red Cross volunteer. Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert B. "Rob" Cherry Jr. of Columbia; and a grandson, Robert B. "Trey" Cherry III, of Sumter. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Bob Reagan's Sunday school class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alice Drive Baptist Church "Build On The Rock" Fund, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of arrangements.  [5]
