Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of Nina Nesbitt McElveen and the late Walter "Tig" McElveen. She was a retired medical office employee. Surviving are her daughters, Lisa (Lavon) Watford of Florence and Tara (Adam) Truesdale of Aiken; a sister, Catherine Elaine McElveen of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Truesdale and Celeste Taylor Truesdale.
