Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Laure and Bessie Lyles Hopkins. Mr. Hopkins was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene. He retired from Campbell Soup after 24 years of service and was also retired from Santee Print Works. Survivors include his wife of 37 years of Sumter; six children, Laurie Hopkins of Winston-Salem, N.C., Tommy Hopkins Jr. and JoAnn Hopkins, both of Massachusetts, Ann Cockerill, Dueain "Buddy" Sanford and Debbie Brettelle, all of Sumter; a brother, Bobby Hopkins of New Jersey; four sisters, Ruby Watts of Mayesville, Laura Jean Smith, Bessie Mae Cuoco and Linda Kelly, all of Timmonsville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Sanford, and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Arthur Sharpe and the Rev. Billy Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Nazarene Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Cockerill, Billy Brettelle, T.J. Hopkins, Johnny Hall, Teddy Spencer Jr. and Earl Gainey Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men's Sunday school class. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
