Born in Sumter, he was a son of Delbert Knox Newman and Mary H. Newman. Mr. Newman was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. He loved to fish and hunt. Survivors include his wife and parents of Sumter; a brother, James Hill (Mary) of Bishopville; a sister, Cherlyn Arrants (Gerald) of Bishopville; two stepdaughters, Shyra Reitz (Todd) of Columbia and Jessica Wilson of Sumter; two step-grandsons, Hunter and Bailey; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Marvin and Bobbie Newman; maternal grandparents Arthur and Hannah Hawkins; and a stepson, Guy Courtney Jones. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gerald Houghton and the Rev. John Baughn officiating. Burial will be in the Zoar Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be LeFrance Bennett, Bruce Galloway, Lance Howle, Kenny Newman, Jeffrey Newman and Shaw Lewis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at 2740 Bertha Circle. Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church: Building Fund, 701 Boulevard Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
