Tomlinson, 89, of Hartsville, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. He was born in Olanta. His parents were Andrew Bartow and Etta M. Tomlinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, of 52 years; five siblings, Keith, Randolph, Izuma, Juanita and Theron. Survivors include twin sons, Richard Tomlinson of Crystal River, Fla., and Robert Tomlinson and wife, Sandra, of Lincolnton, N.C.; a daughter, Sarah Tomlinson of the home; also surviving are his siblings, Albert (Betty) Tomlinson of Spartanburg, Janet (Richard) Turner of Florence, and Joyce Wadford and Judy James of Sumter. Mr. Tomlinson was an agriculture teacher and elementary principal with the Darlington County Schools for 36 years. For the past three and a half years, Mr. Tomlinson resided at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Florence. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as past Commander of the American Legion Post 53. In WWII, he was a member of the 418th Nightfighters Squadron in the U.S. Army Air Corp deployed to the South Pacific. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Norton Funeral Home in Hartsville. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hartsville. Dr. Jeri Parris-Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 53. The family would like to express their appreciation to Presbyterian Home of S.C., Carolina Hospital System in Florence and McLeod Hospice House for his medical care.
